Installing Zip Explorer 3.0

Simply extract the contents of the installation zip file to a clean directory and run the installation program. Note that you must boot after installing, before you use the program. The install program creates an environment variable called "ZIP_Explorer" which points to the directory where your catalogs will be stored. It is necessary to boot to activate this environment variable (Windows NT only: Log off/Log on is sufficient).

NOTE: If you don't do this, the default directory C:\ZIP_Explorer will be used as a temporary catalog directory until you reboot. In that case the program may not later find your catalog files when using "Open All Catalogs". If this situation occurs, you will need to manually move your catalog files (.zar files) from C:\ZIP_Explorer to the installation catalog directory (typically C:\Program Files\ZipExplorer3.0\Catalogs). Another option is of course to re-catalog your disks.
Changing the location of your catalog files
You can change the location of your catalog files after installing the program. This is done by redefining the value of the environment variable "ZIP_Explorer". Here is how you do it for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT:
Uninstalling Zip Explorer
Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs
Select ZipExplorer and press Yes when prompted "Are you sure .."

If you are uninstalling under Windows 95 you may have to edit C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT and manually remove the definition of the "ZIP_Explorer" environment variable (delete one line).
